Coalition to Demilitarize Education Convergence September 10th, Oakland

Updated September 1, 2006

Join students from multiple California universities and representatives from numerous NGOs statewide at this gathering to strategize for demilitarizing academia during 2006-07. University campuses are an essential part of the US war machine; the military doles out billions of dollars each year to universities to carry out the latest research for, and production of, advanced war-fighting technologies. Effective opposition to war begins where we go to school! (LINK: Click here to continue)

The Coalition to Demilitarize Education is surging ahead with our campaigns for academic year 2006-07. At the convergence, we will discuss our summer accomplishments, take stock of current pressing issues that have been in the news (and, in some cases, not in the news), exchange information and resources, and make concrete plans for what well work on during what promises to be an extremely active and effective fall quarter/semester.

There will be plenty of space for newcomers to get acquainted with the Coalitions work to date, and contribute meaningfully to planning for the year ahead. The Coalitions core focus to date has been the University of Californias management of the US two primary nuclear weapons laboratories, the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico and the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California.
