« Nuclear Weapons Laboratory 101 | Main | Doubling of Plutonium at Livermore Lab »

Welcome!!

You’ve arrived at the new and improved ucnuclearfree.org! Thanks for visiting. The purpose of this site is to chronicle student and community resistance to the UC’s management of the Los Alamos and Livermore nuclear weapons labs, as well as to the labs and to nuclear weapons themselves. Although a “preview” version of this site has been available through a link on the old ucnuclearfree.org site, today marks the grand unveiling of the new version.

One of the most obvious changes to this site you’ll notice is that it now features a blog. There will likely be 2-4 blog posts per week here. The posts will cover a variety of topics, including the latest activities of the Coalition to Demilitarize the UC, current events, UC student activism, changes and additions to this site’s content, etc.

In the coming weeks and months, we’ll be adding more in-depth articles to the Features section, changing the Get Involved section, and constantly tweaking all the other sections of the site.

So, if you consider yourself a student activist or a critical observer of the UC’s role in greater society, or you’re just interested in staying up-to-date on the latest activities of a campaign, be sure to bookmark the site and check back often!

From here, there’s a few things I recommend you do:

First, if you haven’t done so already: Get Involved. There are UC Nuclear Free affiliates at nearly every UC campus, working actively to disassociate the UC with the design, research, production, and testing of weapons of mass destruction. Check the Coalition to Demilitarize page for more info, including contact information. Then check out all the information on our current campaigns, which include Grassroots Education, Reach Out to Scientists (Counter-Recruitment), and Spea Out at Regents Meetings.

From there, I encourage you to check out a number of our brand-new features. The largest and most informative of these is “A People’s History of UC Weapons Lab Management." This is the centerpiece of our Features section, and a piece that I hope to publish widely, in a modified form, in various other independent media outlets and periodicals in coming weeks.

I look forward to connecting with you soon!

Huge thanks to Will, Peter, the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation, and any other rockstar I don't know about for making this vision a reality! I am glad we now have a webspace that's as powerful and exciting as our growing coalition. I know we will use it well to build the movement for nuclear-free universities and contribute to peace and justice in the institutions where we are situated. Many thanks for your hard work!
