Get Involved :: Action :: Coordinate a Documentary Screening

Instead of planning a single screening on one campus (Action 79, “Organize a film screening”), how about blasting all 9 UC campuses and even UC Merced with the same film at once? Organizers on each campus can plan the details (reserving the room; doing publicity; leading the discussion, etc) and you can be responsible for organizing the organizers.

Before you begin organizing other folks, have a clear idea of what it is you're proposing. Draft a basic proposal to give to your campus organizers. Include such information as how they can obtain a copy of the film; a spread of dates they can choose from; suggested promotional flyers and posters; and information on how this screening can connect to broader action. Draft a press release that campus organizers can tailor and send out to local media.

Establish a screening date as early as possible. If a single date cannot be agreed upon, then try to at least to get them clustered together within one week. Doing so will relieve you of the burden of coordinating multiple screenings over many weeks. Plus, media will be more attracted to a simultaneous event.

Contact NAPF for help in finding organizers on each campus. Keep in touch with organizers. If you have not already, join the listserv and/or a conference call made up of people working on the campaign in various ways. Brainstorm ideas about how to get people out to the screenings, how to connect them with anti-nuke campaigns, and how to sustain their involvement after the screenings.
